XL1S with Windows XP?

   I just recently picked up a Canon XL1S to uprade my equipment. The first time I tried to hook it up to my computer via Firewire, nothing happened. Sometimes it'll detect the camera at once, but other times it never does. Sometimes it will also take around 2 minutes to read. I don't understand why it does this. Does the XL1S have some compatibility issue with Windows XP or is it something else? Please help!

   hey do you have a video card in your computer , so you can capture your footage than edit.

   Yes, I've been capturing and editing video on the same computer for years, its just that it won't work with my new camera 100% of the time. Its like it only works when it feels like it.
