Windows Vista: ready for prime time?

    I am looking at new desktop systems for NLE and sound/video production.

    Is Windows Vista ready yet, or still a problem child?

    I've used XP Pro for years, and like it a lot, but I don't to get left behind.

    I'd avoid it until SP1 comes out. Vista needs at least 2GB to operate smoothly, but if you upgrade to any more memory than 1GB, then Windows Update stops working (well, you can get into it, but you'll probably end up with an error code of 8000FFFF--look that up anywhere and you'll see that nobody has a solution that doesn't involve removing that memory and reinstalling Vista.) This makes administrating Vista a not-terribly-delightful challenge. But it sure is pretty to look at...

    More than 1GB? Are you serious? I was planning on a minimum of 2 and maybe even 4GB of RAM. Thanks for the tip.
