will not recognise the new CD etc

    I have a Canon DC230 camcorder. I use it regularly except for the last 4 weeks. When I tried to work it today it could not recognise the recording mode. So I went and bought a new CD for the camcorder and the camcorder will not recognise the new CD and tells me to check the CD.

   I have rechecked all my setting on the camcorder and they are as should be. I last thing I did was push the reset button but that did not help.

   Any ideas of what might be wrong please?
