I think its great that amateurs are getting films produced and all, but rather than have them posting their huge images and trailer links and all their promotional stuff throughout these various forums, should there be a specific forum created for them?

That would enable forums to stay on topic and not be watered down with what is really just advertising. (i.e.: Broken, etc.)

Then, I would hope that moderators (do we have any?) would keep a watchful eye out and either remove or move these advertising posts to their own topic.

    What do you think?

I agree, i posted mine in this forum really just because it had no where else to go. I more wanted peoples input rather than advertisement though...

And i think we all appreciate that you did that and did it matter-of-factly.

Still, I think there should be a place for this, partly because some people post repeatedly, they include huge graphics, then keep hitting "Enter" key to run up the reported viewing of the page - they're really just spamming.

But also to keep forums on topic.

I'd vote for a production anouncements forum as well. I love seeing these things. It's great that the indie fimers are out there. At the same time, they don't really have a place here yet, and I think they aught to.

I would definitely go into that forum regularly to see what's new. If I ever finish one of my own projects I might even post info there. But Hank's right, this isn't really the place for this stuff as it is right now.

    Count my vote as cast.

While itÂ’s not a big deal to me if someone just throws a link up in their post, I do like the idea of a separate area or even better yetÂ… a place that all of us could maybe upload examples of our work. After all this is a video forum... right? :D

I just think it would be very neat if everyone could share what they do with everybody. I bet there are a lot of neat ideas and techniques used out there and this way we all could become better by learning from each other.

THEN WE ALL CAN TAKE OVER THE WORLD! 8-O

    Just kidding... ;-)

Hey VMÂ… What do you think?

A Production Announcements forum sounds like a great idea! I'll see what I can do.

BTW, since there still seems to be some doubt: yes, I AM a moderator... but this is not all I do. You have seen me on Videomaker Presents and you've read my buyer's guides and articles in the mag, right? Yup, it's true, I'm a real living breathing person and I have feelings, hopes, aspirations, dreams, what have you--just like everyone else does. There, I feel better now. Now it's time for me to get back to writing my latest product review and New Gear department in between teaching the DVD track of this weekend's Videomaker Workshop.

Nah, forum moderators aren't real people. Neither are writers. Believe me, I've been both, and not once have I ever been recognized as a human by those who saw my work.

Being a moderator on a forum can suck sometimes, especially when you've got a "real job" to tend to. Believe me, I've been there.

Keep up the good work Fulton! Thanks for your steady hand of guidance and your Whacking of Enlightenment™ from time to time. :D

As I've stated in other posts, I am an occasional hobbyist at best. I do hope to do more shooting and editing - on an amateur basis.

I thoroughly enjoy watching other people's video, especially amatuer. I love seeing things that make me say to myself, "I need to learn to do that." At the same time, I enjoy seeing things that make me say to myself, "Yep, I can do that, so maybe, JUST MAYBE, I already have a morsel of a smidgen of talent."

It would be wonderful to have a separate forum with a concentration of postings all in one place that link to people's videos.

CFULTON: do you know who will be conducting the COMPUTER VIDEO EDITING conference (not the video production conference) in Boston on October 7?

i've even looked through almost every post in the general forum looking for people who have posted their work so i could see it. I love seeing what other people come up with and trying to benckmark myself aginst it...when thats possible, ive really found out im not that good at all, but its still fun.

Ahoy all... A little more news on this one. We have something in the pipeline on this very topic which I can't announce quite yet, but stay tuned. (Yes, I do realize that was vague... no, you can't make me say anything else. Please put that battery down now. :) )
Thanks, Jim, for the kind words... most appreciated.
jla730: The Boston conference will most likely be led by Editor in Chief Brian Peterson and our new (to the position, but not new to Videomaker) Technical Editor, Mark Montgomery. Plans are still in some flux at this point... we usually don't know these things for sure until the team member in charge of travel actually buys the airline tickets.

BTW, since there still seems to be some doubt: yes, I AM a moderator...

I know that Charles has promptly and dillegently taken care of spam problems when they're reported, etc. but I meant "moderator" as in the sense of someone who actively went through posts several times a day, kept things with the right topic, etc. I don't know how they expect you to do all that AND wear all those other hats -Hopefully, they show their appreciation for all that hard work every payday! :)
