Here's a question for all you wedding videographers out there -

Just how long does it take you to edit your average wedding and how many camcorders do you use???

We shoot with two videographers, sometimes three and we use three or four camcorders (1 for each camera person + 1 static). I'm trying to get editing down to a single day, but the best I've been able to do so far is two days. To be fair, I do have to spread my time around a bit of web development, etc. but I work long days, so it probably works out to about twelve total hours per editing job for me (with three to four cams).

A couple years ago, it was taking me four or five days, so I can't complain.

I'm using keyboard shortcuts, PP2.0 with multi-cam monitors, etc.

Also - any tips to speed up editing?

  2. 10-12 hours sounds about right, I use 3 cams 1 stationary.

I assume you're talking about total time spent editing for the entire project(ceremony+reception)

If so, about 20 hours spent on editing for me

    2 cams, just myself

    Compusolver:

Our shop uses two videographers on wedding shoots. We typically use two cameras plus a static cam shot on the "trio" or whatever (we try to use as much "on site" music as possible rather than generic CD tracks to back the pre wedding shots), or as a safety shot if camera positions and movement are limited. Most times we will drop back to a single camera for the reception (or at least once all of the "traditions" are over and it's just the party left.

Editing usually takes me about 20 hours start to finish. This includes the "pre-show", wedding, and reception. Most of the time we can end up with around 1 1/2 hours of finished product, but some weddings go to two DVDs. One for the Pre and Wedding, and another for the reception. Just depends.

By the way, we use PP1.5 (2.0 upgrade promised for Christmas if my bosses think i've been good!)
I also have the PP Keyboard with the shortcuts marked on the keys. (It's blue, so our computer tech calls it my FP keyboard (fisher price!). I love my job!)

I think my 12 hour estimate might be on the conservative side - and it doesn't count DVD & case duplication/production times which probably add another four to six hours (counting creative, custom menus & case designs, custom DVD surface printing, etc.)

Added together, I wouldn't doubt that I'm taking 20 hours per project. You'll love the PP2.0 upgrade for multi camera shoots!
