I'm looking for a BluRay capable DVR that features DVD-BR burning/recording, playback, Disc backup, computer interfacing via bidirectional Firewire, and has simple DVD authoring, similar to the Pioneer 520HS that I bought about 4 years ago.

Some satellite and cable provders offer a DVR but none that I have seen provide an external input option for recording consumer HiDef  signals such as that from my HiDef 1920x1080 Canon miniDV camcorder.  I would want Firewire I/O  and HDMI I/O  connections as well.

Does such a unit exist ? .......for under $400 ?!

  2.  For the field or home/office? Any reason why you wouldn't want to get a good DVD/BR-RW unit for your PC and use it, capturing for later edits at the same time? There are quite a few out there for under $400.
