I want a laptop with a firewire port, a DVD/CD RW drive, fairly large (40 GB at least) HDD and at least 256 MB memory, and Integrated IEEE 802.11 Networking for a max of $1500. Do I want to much for to little money??? Any suggestions would be great.

http://www.pcnirvana.net does a fantastic job with custom built machines especially for Video. Check them out. I don't think what you're asking for sounds unreasonable. However, I would suggest getting a good external hard drive, especially if you are going to do videowork. Trying to edit video from the same drive that is working hard to keep your OS going can present problems. Oh yea, bump the 256mb of ram up to 512mb, you'll be much happier.

Have you looked at the Toshiba Satellite series? I bought a P10-610 recently for close to your budget. It's a P4-3 GHz system with 512 MB of RAM, an 80 GB HD, firewire, USB-2 (3), a combo format DVD/CD burner and more. It runs Windows Media Center, a jazzed up XP Pro, but I think you can get it with XP if you're nervous about Media Center. I haven't done any serious editing with it but I have captured via firewire and run DV AVI files on it in Premiere 6.5. The additional drive is a must if you actually want to work on it. Exporting an 8-min DV-AVI to 700 kbps wmv took 28 minutes yesterday, thanks to having one drive doing all the reading and writing, and managing of the system.

I use a laptop for editing. It is an iBook G3, and it works great. I have 384 MB RAM. But I only have a CD-ROM drive. I borrow my uncle's burner for DVDs. But mine right now costs $700. Add a DVD-burner and a 256 MB RAM, and itll cost you less than the windows laptops and your $1500 budget. And Macintoshs are REALLY good for video editing. And now they have iBook G4s.
