I am a student filmmaker looking to buy my first hi quality camera to up the quality on my short filims.

I am looking for an HD camera with a hi quality lens around the $1000-2500range.

I recently found the JVC GZ-HD3 and HD7 both of which are 3CCD with 60G hard drive.
I am used to mini DVs and I'm wondering if it is worth going out of my comfort zone to get an HD camera with a hard disk. (esp a 3ccd one)

Anybody have opinions on these JVC models and JVC brand in general?
Besides having to dump video on a computer every time are there any other drawbacks to a hard drive camera? How much HD quality footage does 60G hold?
And are there any other semi-professional models I should consider?

I'm really shopping around and any bit of information would really help me. Thank you!
