Stereo sound from a wireless Lavalier?

I recently purchased a Samson wireless Lavalier mic kit for my Canon XL1S camcorder. Using the Canon MA100 microphone adapter/shoulder pad to connect the wireless receiver to the camcorder...I am only getting mono-sound through the left channel.

Should I use the unbalanced inputs with a Y-connector, instead? I know this won't give me stereo, but won't it be less distracting than hearing my talent's voice in the left speaker only.

    Any suggestions?

That's what I did, Just a simply "Y" to both channels. Now I don't have to move it to both in post.

Yeah, I guess a trip to Radio Shack is next on my agenda!

If it's after capture to computer that you're concerned about single channel audio, your NLE almost certainly has a tool for duplicating the left channel to a right channel. I use a VX2000 with a Beachtek box to record discreet mics to left and right, then double them in Premiere. The Beachtek also allows recording to both channels simultaneously which makes sense if you have only one mic at work.

I went ahead and got the Y-splitter. So now I've got mono sound in two channels. I'm a little disappointed with the sound level. The lavalier, in order to get a decent volume from the speaker...must be pointed right at the mouth and in close proximity.

I'm sure I can boost the volume in FCP....but that's not as good as having adequate volume in the original footage.

You get what you pay for. If you had followed David H, advice and got the Beachtek, I am sure your levels would be fine. But it costs between $150 and $200 so it depends just how much quality audio is worth to you.

But didn't David say that he doubles the level in Premiere? I'm sure if I do the same in FCP, my levels would be fine. They're about 60% of where I'd like them to be. But if $200 will give me a boost, I may choose to do that.

What is the benefit of the Beachtek box vs. the XLR adapter I already have with the Canon MA100? (which I'm not using)

    The MA-100 works fine.

So if I use my MA100 instead of the Y-connector from the unbalanced output...will I get a better audio track? I'm assuming I'll be duplicating the left channel to the right channel in FCP.

Is this the preferred method? I need a quick answer, thanks!

I connected the "Y" TO the MA-100. The "Y" plugs into the side of the handle.
