How can I speed up the encoding for a video DVD?

I am using an iMac with 400mz CPU, iMovie, Toast 6. I am trying to burn a 4.08 GB video and it is so slow. It is already 14 hours and only about 60% done.

Does anyone have a suggestion(s) on how I speed this up?

    TIA

This is where a faster processor comes into play. You could try adding more ram and you might see a slight improvement.

It sounds as if your system is in need of upgrading. I imagine that the software that you use to encode the video with plays a determining factor also. I use a 3 gig P4 with 1 gig of dual channel DDR 4000 memory and several different applications to actually encode with, one of which is Sonic DVD Architect....it usually cranks out 4 gigs of DVD compliant data in under 2 hours. If youre Mac die-hard, then try to go all out and get the G5 if it is within your budget
