I shoot weddings and frequently find myself with the same problem. I have both groom and minister miked for the ceremony and then a guest has a reading. Even though I have both a handheld mike and a directional mike, I can't turn off the minister's or groom's mike to use them. My only option (I think) is to disengage the MA-300 microphone adapter from the hot shoe on the camera, which automatically turns on the onboard stereo mike.

Of course, this is not the preferred technique as the disengagement records a loud pop on the audio.

Can I add some sort of switchable box to let me choose between xlr inputs?

    All ideas are welcome.

I don't do many weddings, mostly studio stuff, so someone else may have a better answer, but I would think that any switching would cause some sort of 'pop' or other disruption unless you brought the mic volume down first in which case you lose your background sound.

    Two other options -
    * a podium mic wired to a digital recorder or spare camcorder.
    * while the speaker is approaching, do your mic switching, then in post remove the pop and slide some ambient sound over to cover.
