Rumbles, Booms, and all the above

   hey yall, wanted to know where i can find, or make those high end rumbles, and explosions. i went and saw X men III tonight, and was admireing the sound, and all the editing. just wanted to know where i can find sounds such as explosions, and various rumbles. i also wanted to know how you can make your own sound such as the THX intro music. any advice will be greatly appriciated.

   basically, anyone know how THX made their sound?...what program??? and, where can i get sounds for rumbles, and explosions????...anyone...???

   Any audio editor that will do synthesis.
   I use Sony Soundforge 8 and it does an incredible job.
   
   I recently helped my son's High School robot club do a 30second short cgi animation:

   and used Soundforge to time-stretch grunts and groans to make whale-songs, synthesize laser blasts, etc. They won the regional award for the animation.
