If you're looking for a good way to print titles onto your DVD disks, consider the Casio CW50 DVD disk title printer.

This printer costs less than $90, and is designed specifically for printing titles onto DVD and CD disks.

We've been using one for more than a year, and after having printed hundreds of titles onto DVD disks, I am happy to report that the printer is a great investment.

I produced a short video review of this printer - see it at

Great review, Bill! I hadn't heard of this printer but it's hard to ignore for the price. Thanks for the information.

The problems when printing using an inkjet printer instead of a thermal printer are:
    1. the label smears easily. Even months after printing, the inkjet printed will smear when customers touch the label or handle the disk.

      Thermal printed titles never smear.

    2. Inkjet labels take much longer to print. Figure a minimum of 3 minutes per disk. Sometimes much longer.

With the thermal printer, it takes less than 20 seconds to print the disk

    3. Printing using inkjet costs a lot more. The cost per label printed is 300-800% more than printing with thermal printer - mainly due the cost of ink used per disk.

    4. Quality - thermal printers have a much higher resolution on text thatn inkjet printers. The printed text always looks sharp and crisp.

    5. Professional Use - if you look at the labels printed direct to DVD from major studios and major software companies, you'll see that many are black text on silver disks. Easy to read and professional.

While the Casio may be priced low, the quality and reliability isn't. We've used it to direct print to DVD on hundreds of DVDs shipped to customers and clients.

Of course, if you are producing thousands of DVDs, use a commercial duplicator and have them print the titles for you (that's what we do).

But for in-house use nothing beats the Casio thermal printer for doing a good job quickly and economically.
