Someone has asked me to help them covert their old 8 mm reels to DVD. I have a Radeon Video card on my PC (Gateway built for video editing) and I also have a stand alone DVD recorder. (The DVD recorder has a high speed digital video input, S-Video inputs, AV inputs, and RF inputs)

I have not seen her the 8 mm reel projector yet and I'm assuming it doesn't have any "out ports" Is there some simple piece of equipment that I can buy to accomplish this coversion? Has anyone out there done this before?

You will have to project the film on a screen or white back drop no more than 12"....focus ur cam on it and let it role.

unless the projector has sync ability, you might get the flicker as you record it.

    Hope it helps!

idealy you would not just point it a projector at a wall and focus your camera on it. this would have bad results. there are many places that will convert the film properly using a process called telecine this is the way to go if you have the budget. if not get your camera out.

I have used my canon GL2 to capture many home movies with accepable results. You will need a projector with a speed control to help eliminate the flicker that results from different frame speeds. I bought mine on ebay a couple of years ago. After capturing I edit out bad parts and have found that customers are thrilled just to see their home movies again on their TV sets.
