Can anyone provide me with any tips for shooting at night? I am using a Canon XL-2 to tape police cars, fire trucks, etc... during the evening hours and was curious if the are any settings or recommendations in shooting this subject matter. The vehicles will be static and moving with their lights on.

    Thanks,

Open up the lens and shoot. If they are moving there is not much you can do. Perhaps make sure they drive in areas that have stores, lighting etc to help offset darkness around the trucks. Don't shoot in auto iris as the lights will cause trouble.

See if you can shoot f11 at a 30th. This will give you more light and color than shooting at 60 fps. And, f11 will create a star- effect on any lights. Your camera shoots 30 progressive, no? That should be rockin!
