I'm new to the whole video thing. I just bought a sony camcorder, the DCRTRV-38. I've practiced shooting some beginner footage and want to edit, but am not satisfied with the Windows editng software that came with my computer. I'm not looking to get into Video creation too seriously at the moment but enjoy being creative with my home movies. What editing program for my PC do you think would be best for me?

    Thanks in advance.

Which program do you not like? Windows Movie Maker? I'm guessing it's version 1, which lacks a lot of useful features. You can upgrade to version 2.0 for free via the Microsoft Web site. The download is about 8MB, not too big.

I'd look into Pinnacle Studio 8, Ulead VideoStudio 7, or the Sony Screenblast, which I believe all sell for $100. They are all easy to learn and all can produce professional-looking results.

    Nicole,

As TJ mentioned, there are a number of good, inexpensive programs. I'd also add Magix. But make sure that your pc is big enough and fast enough to handle them. Look at the harware requirements. And generally speaking, double whatever is mentioned as the minimum.

Pinnacle 8 is a great way to start in video. I've been in video now for about a year and that's what I use. It's a great program to start with. I also agree with the others here make sure you check system requirements. Double is good!!
