Kind of Suprised.....

In a recent issue of Videomaker, there was a comment made which I really liked, "You make your videos, not your equipment" or something along those lines. At this point, I've been reading and posting on these forums for awhile now and, maybe it sounds naive, but the production of a video or movie is getting overlooked. To me, the production process is the most difficult thing about making videos. Maybe I'm saying this because I'm on a very strict budget so there aren't all that many things that I can purchase, but I still think that learning how to actually shoot good video is much more important than how to edit good video. I guess what I'm saying is that I'm just kind of suprised that this section gets so little use, and I wish it got more.

    Dan,

You are quite correct. Too many people put the emphasis on needing and buying more equipment, when in many cases, what they really need is to learn a few more basic techniques of planning, scripting, and editing the production.

Some of the best productions use minimal equipment - and rely more on the techniques the video producer uses to the present the subject matter in a way that is interesting (and even compelling) to the viewer.

It really is the person behind the video that makes the video, not the equipment you use.
