      Hello all,

I was away on a deployment and my wife had got a jvc mini dv camera and was having no problems making videos and taking pictures. Well, except for the fact when I got back neither of us were able to figure out how to put it on our computer. I am not a computer genius, but I know a fair amount. basically I plug it in using the provided usb and niether the camera or winxp reads anything is in there.

I just today, after 6 months, found a cd that came with the camera but its only a digital photo viewer and something for audio in the movie clips.

Any help being able to put this on my computer would be helpful!

Camera model: JVC mini dv model GR-D275U

      Comp Specs

amd Athlon 64x2 4200+ Dual Core
      320 gb hd
      winxp sp2
      2 gb RAM
      GeForce 7800 GT OC

      Welcome back!

Yes, that camera does have a USB port, but I'm wondering if it may be just for the still photos.

Your camera also has "i.Link Digital Input/Output (IEEE 1394 compliant) DV in/out" - in other words, "firewire".

If your computer does not have a firewire connector for 6 pin, then you can buy a card to provide this function for around twenty-five bucks or so.

You'll also need a firewire cable. It will have a 4 pin connector at the camera end and 6 pin at the computer end.

Your computer should recognize your DV camera once you connect it this way.

      Good luck!

Upon further checking, a 4pin to 4pin "DV cable" (firewire) should have come with the camera, I think.

You can order this and an instruction manual from the JVC page at:

      http://www.jvcservice.com/store/Model.asp?PgReq=DspDta&model=GR-D275US

Most companies have their instruction manual online for free download. Shame on JVC for wanting a few bucks for this.

I successfully located a PDF manual:
      http://books.jvcservice.com/download/994020190/37920.pdf

I got there via http://www.jvc.com > Consumer Products > Support (top) > Product Documentation: User Manuals > entered model number, confirmed model number, downloaded manual.

We certainly hope no manufacturers take down their PDF manuals--I always recommend people download the manuals first before they make their purchases so they can get a feel for where everything is on a product before they get out their credit cards.

      Thanks Charles!

The manual says that either a 4-4 or 4-6 pin can be used, depending on the connector type at the computer.

If your computer already has a firewire connector, it will likely be a 6-pin, but go with whatever it has. If it does not have one, I recommend purchasing a card with 6 pin connectors and getting a 4 pin to 6 pin cable.

      This should get you going!
