I own a Canon XL1s. Now they came out with the XL2s and it has HD option. For my business, should i sell this older one and upgrade to the newer one? Do weddings, in-house commercial loops, etc. really need to be filmed in HD? Would HD produce better quality on the DVD that I make for my clients?

WISKI, before reaching for your wallet, I recommend you study the issue further.

I am not aware of the XL2 being able to produce HD video. I think you are confusing the XL2 with the XL H1.

If you shoot wedding video, etc. then you are a business person. As a business person, it is up to you to read your market and decide what the marketplace wants. Does your market want HD wedding videos? Then it is time to get into HD equipment. If not...

I would think that upscale areas like Frisco, NY, L.A., etc. would feel the need to make the HD move long before backwater areas like Oklahoma does.

I've lived in SA. It is a large, metro area but not upscale by any means. I think you are safe without HD througout this decade.

excellent point. my XL1s is already superb and shoots amazing footage. Plus there isn't much competition, but there is some I admit. I am just meaning, that you can't go to bestbuy and get a handi cam or cheap hand held that will measure up. At least not yet! Hope it takes a decade... te he he

the GL 1 is an awesome camera I've heard. A lot of folks use them. They are pretty up there in price and quality too, right?

Care to shoot some projects and try to make a living? I'm always looking for fellow videographers to either help out and split profits or network with, or share ideas, etc. What are your thoughts on that?
