Good info, but you can do nice stuff without the expensive software too.
I have Premiere Pro, but have gotten so used to Studio 9 (a $99 program) that I haven't really taken the time to learn Premiere.
Pinnacle's Studio9 comes with SmartSound and lots of transitions and effects. Sometimes you just have to be creative. I wanted an image (created with Photoshop) to spin and grow until it filled the screen but there wasn't an effect with Studio that did that.
There was, however a transition that spun the screen smaller and smaller leaving the new scene filling the screen. So I found an effect that would reverse a scene and reversed the transition so that it now does what I want.
Add a drum roll, a little SmartSound and, Viola! - my own special effects intro - all on the cheap.
