I am a beginner at capturing and editing home video's from my camcorder. I have a Sony TRV33 and the specs says I am capturing at 520 lines of resolution. Sony provides a USB 2.0 Driver for standard capture directly from the camera. I guess my question is, am I receiving the proper resolution from camera to computer with this capture method. Am I getting the best image regardless of speed. Also am I loosing frames. My next question would be, if not, what does anyone recommend. Either on board type capture card, i.e. maxtor or some type of dazzle type.
    Thanks in advance.

Full resolution DV should create files of approximately 3.6 MBytes per second, or about 216 MB per minute. Your calculator will tell you if that's what you're getting via the USB2 port. As for dropped frames, NLEs like Premiere will report them in clip Properties if they exist. To my knowledge none of the mainstream capture cards accept USB2 at the moment, they're all oriented toward firewire but I suppose that is/will change given that the speed of USB2 is comparable.
