HELP: Wireless Mics & Sound recorders....

I have several different cameras that all treat sound a little differently.

I am thinking of buying a H2 or a H2n (which one is better?) so that I have consistent sound regardless of which camera I use.

I also own a Samson UM1 wireless system.

Can I hook the Samson receiver unit straight into the H2....or do I have to run it into some type of mixer and then run THAT into the H2????

I hope its not too stupid a question! lol

Hi saint k - this is NOT a stupid question. Matching input and output can sometimes be the hardest thing to figure out in this business. Sadly, the XLR jack on your UM-1 will not fit directly into the 3.5mm mic input jack on the H2. Why not get a $163.50 Tascam DR-40 instead of the H2? Costs less than the $199 H2n, and has XLR inputs, so you won't need an adapter or mixer. It also has phantom power for unpowered mics, which could be useful in the future. I paid $169 for the DR-40, and it is a great value for money.

Good luck!

Thanks Bill for the speedy response!

I am not familiar with the Tascam Dr-40. Seems like all the "BEST" lists I saw said go with the Zoom.

I will look into the Tascam. I like the cheaper price if I am not giving up anything.

How long have you used it?

I ordered it in 3/12, a few months after it was introduced. 4 tracks, XLR inputs, overdub - great recorder.

Here is a B&H side-by-side review of the Tascam DR-05, Zoom H1, Zoom H2n and Tascam DR-40 that you may find helpful:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hje3kdbccgo

Here is the standalone DR-40 review:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibtDYRS0M-8
