Help! "Unit in Safeguard Mode" Cannot remove tape. Help! Please!

   I have owned a JVC GR-D20EK for approx 3 years and just encountered a problem. I have a message "E01 Unit in Safeguard Mode" come up on the screen when I turn it on and I cannot remove the already inserted mini dv tape. Does anyone know how I can overcome this problem without the need to send back to JVC and probably cost me more than it's worth.
