Having trouble comparing cams

I am trying to figure out the real differences between the Panasonic AG-DVX100A and the AG-DVC80. This will be my first DVCam purchase. I just can't bring myself to purchasing a consumer level model. Fixing electronic gear is my profession, but digital imaging and editing is really appealing to me. Might as well pursue something I find ejoyable. I will mainly be using the camera to document my son as he grows up, as well as my adventures in the Navy (I will be heading back to sea in a year). He is three weeks old and won't stay little forever. I have a good eye for detail and am not the least bit intimidated by using a higher-end camera.

I just can't decide on which one of these cameras would fit my needs better. I have been looking at cameras and reviews for almost a year now and am tired of all the reading. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This depends on whether you buy into the 24p hype or not. If flickering footage makes you feel like a real moviemaker, then you need the DVX100A. If you just want to take great video, I think the AG-DVC80 would do quite nicely.

    Thanks Lee!

Great video is what I'm looking for. AG-DVC80 it is. Now I just have to find a reputable dealer.
