Hi everyone, my name is Jacob Turmel and my crew and I are making a film. Its a film based on the mafia and we have several gun scenes in the movie. We are about a little more than half way done with the movie and its going very good so far, but there is a few things i need some help on and one of them is making a gun shot effect, like a flash effect from a gun. We already have great blood and effects of people getting shot, but ive had trouble finding a way make the actual shooting the gun look good, sence i dont have much money to buy expensive software to make this effect i need to find a way to acomplish this effect. So i need some help, any ideas or maybe name off some software that doesnt cost that much that i can buy or something, anything that can help me i would be very greatful.....and if anyone needs any help on how to make a gunshot wound/blood effect then i can help you, just ask.....thanks and God bless

Hi I was looking for an effects program a while back. I only used the demo for muzzle flashes to try out on a clip made for testing out chroma keying. There is also a tutorial on the site on how to use it, also there are alot of presets for different type of guns.

    here is the video.

alright, thanks both of your suggestions have been very helpful, and after thinking about it i might invest the money and buy that software, and by the way if you want to see some clips of my movie go to you tube and type in Blood for Money and a few video clips from my movie should pop up.

Have you thought of using real guns and blanks? Be careful at close range because of powder burns, but it can't get much more realistic than that!

well, i said, i dont have much money to spend, and a real gun would cost much more than a decent software package.

I'd be leery of real guns with blanks...especially on a low/no budget production.

Look at what happened to Brandon Lee. 8-O

Airsoft, let me reiterate this again: AIRSOFT Looks real, kicksback real. And an electric airsoft gun only costs around $20. AND it si completely safe (as long as you do not load it) You can also make muzzle flashes by hand in photoshop, but the stuff at http://www.videocopilot.net/action.html looks pretty good.

Just remember to let law enforcment know wheen you are doing something with prop firearms.

You can buy prop guns that look really real, but they are about as expensive as the real thing.

Airsoft guns are the best way to go and are fairly cheap. And the spring loaded ones are cheaper than the electric ones.

Yeah let me reference another topic similar to this one:

    http://www.videomaker.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3726

I posted a vidoe on that thread, just a demo, I used an airsoft gun, and adobe photoshop to make the muzzle flash.

Just a simple demo. I made the muzzle flash by hand, and I used no other video FX tools, but once again the stuff at http://www.videocopilot.net/action.html does look pretty good.
