I'm getting married (recycled, actually) tomorrow, then off to the Grand Canyon, then a leisurely drive back home through Colorado and possibly some Class II canoeing.

Can anyone recommend things particularly video-worthy for me, on this trip? I don't want to miss anything!

    Thanks.

Congrats! I live in Colorado. A couple weeks later and you could see the aspens changing (into their fall clothes). But hey, this is the rockies, there is no shortage of video-worthiness here! :)

I know this isn't what you were looking for, but I did make a short of our motorcycle trip to the Grand Canyon last year. This is a amateuristic video using a hand held digital8 camera.

Based on research on this site and others, I learned quite a few things that I should, and should not do again, . Next time I edit and shoot, I'll quit using my zoom, I won't use so many transitions (they look cheesy, and don't compress / stream well), and I'll shoot more transitional shoots. I know there are many other elements to use in making a short, but I'm on a learning curve. The whole video was shot on auto.

This piece is a bit to long, and I actually didn't get any shots of the Grand Canyon and other awesome places as my camera broke the first day we arrived at Lake Powel Arizona.

Take a look, if you have about 9 1/2 minutes to waste....

    Thanks for the "congrats", everyone!

Who's doing the wedding video? Well, at our age and considering this is my third time around, I think a video is quite unnecessary - but my bride disagrees, so a couple we've been training has offerred to do the video.

    Mr and Madame,
    Have an adventurous life together.
MUST shoot video for this trip: Set your alarm for 430 am and get out there for that definitive study of Colorado sunrises the world has been waiting for.
    Best Wishes!

    Congrats, Hank!

If you have the time, I would strongly recommend a side trip to Sedona, Arizona. They don't call it Red Rock Country for nothing: it's breathtaking.

Several years ago, my wife and I went to the Grand Canyon and then Sedona. Our plans were to stay at the Grand Canyon for 4 days, then Sedona for two. I had seen both the Grand Canyon and Sedona before; my wife hadn't seen either. During our stay at the Canyon, needless to say, my wife was impressed. But after just 3 days at the Canyon and me harping incessantly about Sedona, we cut our plans short at the Canyon and headed down to Sedona for an extra day. To this day, my wife says she's glad we made that decision. In fact, her dream is to retire in Sedona.

It's not a huge town, but there are plenty of "touristy" things to do there. And it's photogenic as all heck. Take a Pink Jeep tour. Go for a hot air balloon or airplane ride.

Sedona is a few hours south of the Grand Canyon. If you do decide to go and stay at least one night, there are plenty of nice places to stay there.

ADDENDUM: I didn't notice until after my initial post that I'm too late - you got married already! So now the question is: by any chance, did you happen to go to Sedona?? I'll leave my post up in case someone else is thinking about going to Arizona.

On your trip between the Grand Canyon and Colorado, go through Kayenta, AZ. Next travel to Moab, UT through Monument Valley. In Moab Check Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, as well as Dead Horse Point State Park. Dead Horse Point has actually used as the Grand Canyon in numerous movies. The entire area has a long movie history. Then head into Colorado for some great mountain vistas.

I'm a day late (or more) too!

Thanks to all for the great suggestions. Unfortunately, most were too late (we left the Grand Canyon on Wednesday due to poor weather) but we did happen to drive through Monument Valley and it was awesome (as was the GC).

Overcast skies and light drizzle do not make for good photos & video of these, but they were still a sight to behold.

    Thanks again!
