The film is scanned with a "Telecine" machine. A good example is a Phillips-BTS CCD Quadra telecine, Start saving your change because unless I miss my guess these babies are in the high 6 figure range (or low 7's). As it's being scanned it can be sent through a DaVinci color corrector (another 6 figure machine who's operator gets $150 per hour to run it). Then it's sent to your computer. After your done with it you take your files back to the facility and they print it with a laser printer for film. The one I saw in Detroit several years ago was one of only 6 in the world at the time, that this company had made, and it cost them over a million dollars. I don't know how much they are going for now. It's an expensive process.
