    Hi!

I am looking for advice on purchasing a MiniDV Camcorder (720*480) for educational purposes. It will be used to film kids in a after school program.

It *must* have headphone and microphone jacks.

It will later be logged and captured fairly quickly and easily on to iMacs running OS X. We like the MiniDV format as it is both store-able as well as compatible with OS X (many new hard drive cameras aren't) and our level of hardware.

We have been using JVC GR-DV500U's that can do all of this successfully but want to purchase newer cameras to supplement them.

    Ideas for camcorder purchases?

    rl,

The Canon GL2 and Panasonic DVC60 come to mind. Or, if you're on a smaller budget, maybe the Panasonic DVC20.
(And of course Videomaker should have reviews of many camcorders in their back issues.)
