DVD/VHS Combo player

   I'm looking for a DVD/VHS combo player to be used for live presentations that does not have the "background graphic" when idle. In other words when I'm not either playing the VHS or DVD, I'd like the screen to be black. Anyone know of such a thing?

   This is a fairly common menu option. You can frequently choose between the manufacturer's logo and a blue, gray or black screen. Some DVD players can display the DVD's jacket artwork, if a certain file exists on the DVD's file structure. If your DVD player is one of the increasing numbers of players that can display images from a Photo CD, JPEG CD or memory card, you can frequently set one of your own images as the idle screen. (However, watch out for the screen saver--you usually don't get a choice of what is displayed when it comes on.)
   One good resource that frequently helps me decide what to buy is to download the online PDF manuals of the products that make it to the top of my hit list. Of course, this option doesn't work for everyone--but it's made much easier if you have a broadband Internet connection. Good hunting.
