Looking for a box that will let me record the City Council meeting ( sometines 5 & 6 hours long ) then insert chapter marks and then burn a DVD or two. I have seen a few boxes, even in this latest issue, but has anyone out there had any experience with any of these devices?

I have the Panasonic DMR-E100 and that would be perfect for your application. It has a 120GB internal hard drive that will hold from 26 to 160 hours of video/audio, depending on the quality you want. You would probably want to cut the video into 2 hour segments because more than 2 hours on a DVD gets rather poor quality video but the slowest EP speed will put 6 hours on a 4.7GB DVD-R or so the manual says. Two hours is the most I have done and that has been very good quality. I paid about $830 for it in early Nov. 2003.
