Hi there. Can someone please tell me what the differences between the Sony V1, Sony V1U and Sony V1E are?

I have read the review of the V1U and would like to buy it. But as I'm in Scotland, the V1U doesnt seem to be for sale here. It is for sale on US amazon -  http://www.amazon.com/Sony-HVR-V1U-Professional-Camcorder-Optical/dp/B000IF8NNS. But being in the UK I'm not sure if electrical equipment from the US will operate ok over here.

From the information I have found the V1E does not some to offer 24p. Can someone please help! Thanks!

The U stands for United States, and the E for Europe.

Out of the box, The U does 1080i60, 1080p30, 1080p24 (NTSC frame rates), while the E model does 1080i50, and 1080p25 (PAL frame rates).

They are locked to their region, so Sony does not make one V1 model that does all framerates. If you want to use PAL you're going to want the E model, but you won't get 24p. (You do get 25p which does give you the same aesthetic though).

Sony broadcast does offer a "worldcam upgrade" to some of it's HDV models, making them all frame rates for $300, but it looks like the V1 series is not included in that offer, the camcorders that qualify are: HVR-Z5U, HVR-Z7U and HVR S270U.

The U is for US (NTSC) and E for Europe (PAL). The frame rates are slightly different accordingly.
