I am currently finishing up my first big project. When I was editing my film, I realized that my scenes just didn't flow together. A shot of two people talking followed by somebody walking down a street just didn't flow together. My only ideas are to add a master shot to establish the setting before the scene, or to begin the backround ambience of the second scene at the very end of the first scene. Has anybody had this problem? Any suggestions?

If there is dialogue in the two-shot you could try an "L" cut, where the video is replaced but the audio remains. So the conversation finishes as the scene over it changes. Perhaps if you could be more specific about the shot sequence other ideas might come.

Thanks David. Well, it's not specifically any two shots. It's just that I'm struggling to get my main character from the school hallway to her room smoothly. It seems awkward that she says goodbye to her friend at school and is suddenly in her room.

A "two-shot" refers to a scene with two characters in it. I should have explained that. If what you have to work with is a shot of the character talking to another and then a shot of her in her room you could try the old white flash, introduced immediately after the last spoken word in the two-shot, or a horizontal wipe, which you see in movies occasionally when they have the same problem. With this you push the two-shot off screen with the follow shot.
