I'm about to embark on a video project. This project will involve filming live car motor sports. This will be shot in low light or during natural daylight. I'm considering doing it in HD. I have about a $4000 - $6000 budget per camera. I've read that both Sony HVR-V1U, and FX1 have low light issues so those are automatically. I also would like to record to hard drive using a produt like the Firestore 100. A backup using tape would also be very handy. I've read in some reviews online that HDV is not the way to go because it gets burly in fast action instances. But i can't confirm this. Does any one have any incite or recommendations?

Hi def cams require more light than SD, so in a sense, all have low-light issues. Having said that, I don't know of any prosumer level hi-def cam that has a better lux rating than the FX1. It is the only hi-def cam we considered for wedding/event shoots and it is performing as expected - not quite good enough for parts of some receptions, but good enough for nearly all ceremonies and sixty percent of receptions.

I don't know of any place that races motor cars indoors. The nighttime races I've noticed (seen from the highway as I pass by) were lit up brighter than a prison on "escape alert"!

Some of the tracks are, yes. We also film the drivers at locations other than the track. These are the locations that i'm worried about.
