I'm capturing home movie VHS tapes and came across a 'portion' of one tape that claims it is copy protected. How did this happen on a home movie and can I 'work around' to capture this protected area?

ok this is what you do...open your editing program FCP Premire pro any thing that will capture a non controable device..other wise you have to run it to a dv tape and then capture the dv tape...you should not have a problem..just run composit out and into your camera and let it conver it to dv...I really dont think you will have a problem but just play with it thats all you can do

The problem I am troubleshooting is the tape itself. I have captured over a dozen VHS home movie tapes in the last week, all of which are 18+ years old. Only two tapes are giving me a problem. This tape indicating that it is copy protected, but only beginning half way through the tape. And one other tape is playing as if it were on fast forward.

    Are these tapes salvagable?
