Buying a new DV Camcorder

   I am currently a student looking to go into the field of video production. I have done a little video editing, shooting and such. In school we use the Cannon XL1. I would like to buy a camcorder, but don't know what I should look out for or even what is recommend. I have about $500.00 dollars to spend.
   
   In your opinion what is the best camcorder out there for about $500.00? I just need some advice before I make a purchase.
