I just shot a wedding and have about 4 hours of material to edit with. I wanted to know what is the best way to capture in premiere 6.5? Batch capture? All the footage? Some? I have a large hardrive so it wouldn't be a problem.

    Thanks

I'm a fan of batch capture in Premiere. I've found that working with one hour-long file is much tougher than a series of say nine-minute segments, specifically when scrubbing the preview window content. I'm also a big fan of logging footage before capturing anything.I'm not an event videographer so may not be aware of key differences from what I shoot but if four hours will turn into an hour or less of finished material then viewing and logging first saves a lot of capture, gives you an opportunity to highlight particularly good stuff, and starts your creative machinery working.

Spending a little extra time logging can save a lot of time during the editing process. I would seperate the ceremony footage from the reception footage.

It's true that logging each shot can save you a lot of time, but I found that batch capturing every shot as a seperate clip was extremely time consuming. You also end up hunting through hundreds of shots in the project window. I'd advise using batch capture, but capture the video in fairly large sections, breaking at the obvious places such as outside church/ceremony/signing of register etc. Capturing the whole tape as one file makes the file very unwieldy, making archiving to dvd or moving it, for whatever reason, a pain.
