   Dumb question - Where do you plug in headphones to monitor sound? Read instuction manual (not real manual copies) to no help. Will any kind of headphones work?

   You would plug your headphones directly into your camera. That is where you monitor what you camera is picking up.
   
   Pretty much any headphones will work providing the pin configuration is correct. For best results use the padded muff kind that cover your whole ear so that you can block out any outside noise. That way you can hear what's going on from your camera better.
