I have been in the areas of video and filming for a while. However, I completely stink at audio and recently I'm having to do this area as in breaking new ground because I don't have the knowledge. All I've ever had to do was film/ edit and someone else took care of the audio. Now after my audio guy has left I need help with the following:

    - What software is best
    - The rumble/ hiss sound is kicking my butt (Is there a way to eliminate it during the recording process?)
    - I need to learn the equalization process
    - Basically I need to start from ground zero and any vids/ literature recommendations will be appreciated.

Any input is greatly appreciated, I've tried shooting from the hip and that only works for home vacation vids. Thanks

I used to use the Sony software, but I prefer Audition now. It will get rid of that hiss, but the best way is to get your mic isolated and some distance from the camera mechanisms. I use lav's whenever possible, but when I have to use a shotgun, I have a mount that gets the mic about six inches away from the cam and a shock mount that cost about fifty bucks. The cheap shock mount that came with the shotgun mic was useless and we'd get that terrible rumbling noise (from the camera motor).

videouniversity.com might be a resourse for audio how-to. And try Google. You can find nearly anything with Google. And Videomaker magazine occasionally runs some good basic audio articles - every few months or so. Check your back issues.
