Any experience with this CatDV software?

   I've been kinda looking around for something to catalog my video clips and came across this  http://www.squarebox.co.uk/index.html. Anyone own or used this software? Know of any comparable products? I am using Windows platform...

   Hi,  I have been using CatDV for several years now and over several versions.  I am a hobby video photographer (wild life and mainly West African birds.) That means lots and lots of tapes, all with many different species photographed. You need to be very dilligent in logging tapes, but it is the only system that I have come accross that will allow me to search through this miriad of tapes for the odd clip of a particular bird which could distributed randomly among some 150 tapes.

    The system makes low res .mov files of the whole tape and has the ability to separate each clip by noting the breaks in "ambient" time and produces a thumbnail of the first frame of each clip. I have found the capture program a little bit "iffy" but it works reasonably well most of the time.

    I have only just bought my first HD camera and haven't spent any time checking CatDV with HD tapes. However first impression is that I will need to set the output from the camera to SD before CatDV will recognise what it is being presented with.

   Thanks, I too have tons of footage on tape that I could use in various projects and just playing throught the tapes to find them is annoying. I have footage of both SD &HD, but may give this a try...

   There is another program, I think it is called "scenalyzer" or something similar. I remember I did try it a long time ago. It was cheaper but didn't offer the facility to scan the whole of your collection of tapes and flag up those clips with the search word you put in. It may perhaps have been improved in the meantime.
