    Hi there,

I recently watched the movie "Pluto Nash", with Eddie Murphy. I enjoyed it, loved some of the effects etc. But anyways, in the final scene where Eddie Murphy fights himself, they stand opposite of eachother, and u can clearly see the face of both, etc. Now, first i thought "nice, can easily be done". But then he starts touching the guys jacket, lifting it up a bit etc. - teasing eachother.

So my question is: How could I make such a thing? What would I have to do etc.? Been wondering on that for quite a while.

And 2nd thing: How could u smoothly put something chromakeyed into a panning camera scene. For example a person is walking on the bluescreen set, while a camera films a empty scene out on a street while panning the camera. Now, how could u smoothly merge those 2? What do you guys suggest? Perhaps something way different chromakeying, or got any tricks/software you could recommend me for doing these things?

Well, think about those 2 things please and give me some solutions - thanks.

To answer your second question. You need to have the pan be exactly the same for both shots. You also have to consider size and perspective inorder to match the two up. You can use a software editor called Vegas, it's for the pc. After you chroma key the blue out, you can keyframe the placement of the keyed video. In short, You can put the video of the guy walking anywhere on the screen and adjust it to your needs. Check out the demo. and experiment.

Well, since you think the un-touching parts would be easy, I'll assume you have the basic concept. The only way I can think to have them touching eachother like that, if to have a stand in for filming each side so that the motions look real, and on any shots that both faces are showing, replace that side with what Eddie Murphy shot. Make sense? It would be really hard to do that way, but I can't think of anything else except animating it on the computer, which I don't think they did (that was a forgettable movie for me).

hey, i just got back from "the studio", attempting to put the tips i got into a "real" movie - but without getting the result i was hoping to get. I pretty much got stuck at the part where the clones stand next to eachother, touching the jacket, etc. Also tried using blue/green screen technics by replacing the head etc. but in the end it didnt turned out the way i hoped it would =) But anyways - thanks for the tips, they gave me a much better result then i had in the first place hehe ;)

Did you replace the whole body, or just the head? I think the other trick would to be get lots of good shot from many many different angles so you can cut a lot. Not choppy like, but close. It's a fine line, but I bet that's what would pull it off. Well, that's a shame that it didn't turn out. If anyone else gives it a go, make sure you let us know!
