AG-DVC30 mic jack question

   I have an AG-DVC30 and some time ago the microphone mini jack stopped working. The guy in the local shop that fixes such things is no longer available, and I don't want to send it to Panasonic to fix. I have an AZDEN shotgun mic with a mini plug and I am trying to figure out if I can get an adapter to route it through the "XLR adapter" 8-pin jack on the camera somehow, rather than going the whole route to try to locate the XLR microphone and adapter, which looks like would cost me around $600 if I can locate all the parts. Does anyone know what the 8-pin jack actually is and can suggest how to use it this way?
