Say, what's the deal with the "Sony VX2100" and "Sony FX7" forums? Not only do these seem redundant, since we already have a "Sony" forum that isn't exactly getting overrun with posts, but it brings up two other issues -

    1. Why skip the Z1, FX1 and the several dozen other Sony models? Surely the FX1 is more popular than the FX7?

    2. Why have forums for individual Sony models and not do the same for Canon, JVC and even Samsung, etc.?

People can be quite loyal to their cameras. By having an FX7 but not FX1 forum, a visitor may think - "Well, I guess this site isn't for me."

Also, by spreading out the forums, you thin out the posts making people spend more clicks (and time) for less reading. In essense, getting less for our efforts.

I vote to wrap any posts in these extraneous, redundant forums back into the Sony forum.

    Anyone else?

    Oops, Sorry about that. :-//

We were trying out the idea for new subforums for each camera model from different manufacturers. Some of it leaked out off our test servers.

So the proposed format would be for example Sony camcorders, then subforums for each model. (i.e. Sony->FX7, V1U, etc.), As well as subforums for specific models for Canon, JVC, etc.

Would you like that better than one forum for all models?

    Any feedback is welcome,

Nooooo!!! 8-O I don't like having forums deeply nested. Besides, the posting often covers more than just one product or idea. Let the title for the original posting which started the thread declare the specific topic.

    Ditto!

Please don't "cubby hole" dozens of forums. A bit more generalized is best, I think.

All of my favorite forums have a specific place for my camcorder.

If I want to find an answer to a GL1 question, I don't want to slog through 73 GL2 posts to find it.

Just my 2 cents of course!

It's one thing when you're on a support forum, seeking specific information regarding a specific camera model. It's something else, when you're reading forums, especially forums where it is highly unlikely that there will be a dozen posts within a thirty day period about any one camera model.

I like to read all posts, but with so many topics already, I only keep up with about half of them. Adding more topics would mean I keep up with fewer posts due to the extra effort involved and fairly slow response times of these forums.

I think this would be a great idea for a Forum Archive - posts that are over a few months old, but not for active posts. The difference is that there is a greater opportunity for activity when current topics are combined to some degree and when there are a greater number of current posts visible due to combining sub-topics.

For an archive of older posts, having more categories would make more sense. At least, that's my two-cents worth.
