    Hi,
I'm looking for filters for a Sony TRV950. At one site, here's what I was shown: "Crystal Optics 3pc. Multi-Coated Pro Filter Kit with 15 year guarantee. Kit includes: 1. UV-Reduces blue haze caused by UV light by absorbing 71% of UV. 2. Polarizer-Eliminates glares from sunlight and deepens picture color. 3. Fluorescent-Provide pleasing skintones and corrects color under fluorescent lighting. $349.99" Do I need all these? Are these the best three types of filters to get? Do I have to pay this much for good quality? What about ND filters?

    Hi Paul
    I paid $8.00 on e-bay for a crystal optics 37mm uv filter.
I looked on one of the big photo house site and they wanted $29.95 for it. The ND is a dark filter that reduces the amount of light that comes into a unit, like sun glasses.
If you are shotting in bright light conditions(in the snow)then I would get one. Sony also has a UV and ND filter kit for around $39.95 plus shipping. Try e-bay and see what you can find.

You want at minimum a UV filter, which will always stay on the camera as it improves the colour of sky or makes no visible difference in other scenes, and it protects your expensive lens.

You most likely want a circular polarizer (dramatically reduce/eliminate reflections)

and if you are shooting in really bright backgrounds (snow, sand) you probably want a Neutral density filter (ND), probably a small assortment of them in varying degrees of transparancy.
