I have been messing around with this program on my new computer and something is really bothering me. When i connect my camera and start to upload video it only gives me 2 options, upload entire tape or burn to dvd. Now if you go to entire tape it automatically rewinds to the beginning. I have tapes where i only want a few sections out of it, if i stop anything, try to FF,etc or touch the camera it stops and you have to start all over. Does anyone know a way where i can sift through and only pick out parts i want on the tape?

It sucks because on some tapes i may only want the last 10mins of footage on the tape but i have to upload the entire tape just to get that.

Hello All;

Sorry I have not posted for some time. Way too much going on, we bought a house and I will get my studio back, and well tons more. But anyway I have a problem some of you may have had. We have a friend that as a family we are very close to. She bought a 130+ year old house here in the south and on her own restored it to what it was then. Man it is way beyond beautiful In fact when you are inside you feel like if you look out the window you will see Confederate Solders on the front lawn. She even furnished it with period furnishings.

Perfect location for a perfect movie, if I had an idea. It is a huge two story with the narrow winding stairs, and the every scary basement.

My sons says make a horror, but I am not a horror man, I am also not one to make it set in the 1860's because I abhor the way people treated people then.

So any other ideas? I hate to see a good set go to the way side/

Hello! I found this forum on Google and I've seen lots of experienced people giving their advice here, so I thought I would try it out!

I usually charge $100/min of edited footage when I make promo or recap videos. (So a 5 min video = $500). That's perfect for my target audience and the kind of videos I make. However, I was recently approached with a project that I am unsure how to price. Here are the details:

8 to 10 videos at 15-20 minutes each. The content is educational lecture. We'll probably spend a day (8 hours) filming all the videos, then my guess is that it will take about 60 hours of editing to get everything put together within the next 3 months (I'm a college student with classes so yes, it will take that long). With my *usual* pricing formula, the quote could be like $15,000!!! And that's way out of my client's budget. I understand that the editing for these videos will actually be minimal compared to my usual work :::::: https://vimeo.com/17085389 ::::: so it will cost less. But I also don't want to be taken advantage of.

If you need to know anything else, please let me know! Other than that any advice is very appreciated :)

I have several software... Pinnacle, Sony Vegas PRo 11, magix music maker. I don't have an ACID, but I do have a soundforge and audacity.

I made a video recording with my ZoomH2 and also the Sony HDR12 camcorder. When making the video. The video is great, and cannot be redone. The sound recorded by the camcorder sounds like the actor is in a bucket.

The sound from the Zoom H2 is excellent, but I cannot get the sound to sync. I've spent couple hours trying. I get very close, but not close enough to make a decent presentation

I was thinking... the actor is speaking clear enough and understandable enough in the Camcorder recorded sound, but the bucket sound is just too obnoxious.

Any suggestions for either

1) way to sync sound from Zoom H2

2) way to remove the bucket sound

Hi,

I want to start doing aerial filming i.e. taking video from a light aircraft of the landscape. Hi,

I want to do HD video from an airplane, but need advice on
which type of camcorder. I have been told that becuase of the vibration
in the aircraft I must be careful which medium the camcorder writes to
(i.e. disc, card etc). Any advice on what specs a camcorder must have to
take high quality footage from an aircraft.

Greetings,

I am just starting out in film and am having trouble getting the information I want answered by any of the suits at the big electronic stores. Unfourtunate for me, I have no friends with experience in these matters either. I am looking for some (i call them simple) answers, and I am hoping that someone here might help me.

The project: I am doing a documentary of a precarious group of people and require equipment and know how.

1st question: What Camcorder should I look into. I have a budget of about 700 dollars, and am looking at a mic, and a software compliment for this camcorder. I am hearing alot of good things about the Canon Vixia, but I have no idea if the information is accurate.

2nd question: I have heard that Vegas Software would be above my grade for a documentary, but better to have it and not need it I always say. I want to eventually burn it to a dvd to watch, would Vegas work well for this and say normal burn software?

3rd question: With a documentary I am going to be interviewing people in some pretty noisy places, and would require the tools to turn down the volume levels of the area to better hear the subject's response. Which program would I use, or would it depend on the mic or camcorder?

Any help would be appreciated...

I had the off chance to grab this brand new (SRP $999.99) for $499.99. I was really impressed. So where do I start this review?
1st, recording in almost impossible conditions.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUsOEdZYCMQ

We did a talent show and I sat up at the back of the auditorium, it was a long distance away, I was using a shot gun mic on the attached mini-shoe. All the lights were turned off, the the audio people kept having trouble. However the quality of audio and video were unbeatable. I was also freezing as I was sitting by some glass doors. It was mounted on my Ravelli tripod.

2nd Zoom quality. I went to a local place called Swan Ridge, a mountain top overlooking the lake (video not on net) and zoomed in on a white spec across the lake, at least several miles. It was a camp site which I could see very clearly, and the people milling around. When I took the footage back into studio I was amazed to see that I had caught an eagle fishing, it was amazing footage.

3rd Features. The camera has all the features of the big pros, external mic's (mini) and a mini-shoe with an optional Shot Gun mic that gives the most excellent quality audio, It shoots in mts format and also in 24FPS mts, and I did shoot video and it was unbelievable, quality, but I need to keep it on a tripod as it can get blur if you run with it.

4th The manual control is still on touch but it is very easy access and allows for no jitter movement. It also come with a full wireless remote, which has proved itself handy.

5th The body is all aluminum, makes it heavy sort of, but the balance is perfect, I removed the hand strap and it gave it excellent balance. The aluminum body is tough and rugged. I was very pleased.

I will post more video from it to share with you, but over all if you can still find one it is well worth it. I got the last one B&H had when I ordered, it was dis-continued after I placed my order. I think maybe way? It gives you a lot near pro features and quality for a consumer price. I am sure there are still a few out there, and I intend to buy at least two more, the quality of the camera and the output is well worth it.

What do you pros and serious amateurs recommend, please?

Hello all; Long time no post. I have had a life changeover so to speak. My parents at law are aging and along with that comes changes with all lives that are in orbit.

Anyway my 22nd anniversary is up and coming (I am getting the wife her first "real" camera. It seems I have peaked her interest.) Anyway she asked what I wanted and I need a tripod replacement. I currently use a Ravelli AVT, but I have had to have done something serious to it in the last two years because the pan is rough now. I have disassembled it and put lithium grease in the internal, it did help but is sticks really bad.

So when the wife asked me what I wanted a tripod came to mind. However I need to keep the budget real, under $300.00 with tax, but I do not want something so-and-so looks up and reads the reviews, I have come to trust many here at their "real experience" word. So based on what you use and have experience with what do you suggest? I am using a Canon Vixia HF21 and when I shoot in 24FPS I need this thing to be smooth as silk. It is a heavier camera as it has an aluminum body, but it is still light.

So suggest and post links away. I would like to buy it through B&H if I can (Account there).

So there it is.

Thanks

Hello:

I have been volunteering
as videographer for different local events like: Dance festival, school singing performance, singing contest and stage drama.
I have never thought of setting up a studio or register a business name for this
hobby.
However, a recent invitation from a local school, to produce a more professional
looking video for their joint school contest really got me thinking. The school
board officially invited me to produce the video and asked me if I have a
Business name to be published on their event program book. They said they would like to have me as a sponsor for upcoming video productions for their school events.
I really want to make some money from my hobby now.

Is there any easiest or simplest method to register for a video production
company?
Is there anything IÂ have to concern for legal matter?
Do I have to buy separate insurance for different events?

Thank you.

Whether you've been in the biz for a while or just starting up a hobby, the big question is; Should I buy or rent?

In my experience, I've done both and there were pro's and con's with either. These days with gear being truly affordable, there is an incentive to purchase equipment and accessories outright. However, there are unseen costs that come with both purchasing and renting gear. Here's a vid from Caleb Pike that gives a solid analysis of this very important question....

It strikes me that a huge amount of Forum bandwidth is committed to folks asking about gear or software. " What is the best . . . ? " or " What do y'all think about ( insert make and model ) . . . ? " Invariably, respondants most always comment based upon their personal experience with their own gear, a limited perspective when considering the huge selection of camcorders, mics, accessories, etc available on the market. Hopefully they have done their homework based upon their own criteria and have made an intelligent choice of equipment which suits their application . . . which may not be directly applicable to other's or within their budget.

So a more detailed outline of what the person is trying to accomplish with the gear they are seeking will likely elicit more useful or broader responses from those with experience in similar situations. But there's Ssooo much gear out there, isn't there?

I recently purchased a Canon XA10 HD camcorder that will be used to record indoor basketball games. I looking for recommendations for a tripod, fluid head, and zoom lens controller for this camera and this application. I don't want to spend more than a few hundred dollars.

I already have a nice tripod for my camera. (And my camera weighs a lot more than my camcorder.) Can I just buy a fluid head and the controller, or is there something different about tripods designed for video cameras?

Thanks in advance for your specific recommendations. Charles.

I've been out of video production for 15 years and am getting ready to jump back in with an HD camcorder purchase, but one of my absolute "must haves" is the ability to feed the camcorder with the "line out" of an audio mixing board for some studio work. What is not clear to me is if the microphone input jack (such as on a Canon HF20) is compatible with the normal line levels from an audio device, or will it only work with microphones?

Hello -

I'm still working in standard definition. During the next couple of months, I hope to "upgrade" to high definition. There are so many choice of cameras. However, I'm most familiar with Canon's GL2 and Panasonic's AG-DVX100B (on the SD side). So, I'm thinking about purchasing a HD camera from either Canon or Panasonic that's comparable to what I have on the SD side. For Panasonic, this would be it's AG-HVX200A HD camera. It still uses tape, but it can also use it P2 card.

So. . . for anyone who has used the HVX200A camera, how do you like it? Please share any experience you have regarding its strengths and weaknesses.

I see that the camera has a firewire port out. I have two external recording devices (both from Focus Info) which can record video via the firewire port. Would such a device work with the HVX200A??

Thank you for your time in reading this post and sharing any information.

Nowcomer to video editing - How can I produce and burn the best possible quality DVDs (not AVHCDs or BDs). I can produce and burn excellent quality short videos to DVD when burning in AVCHD format, and that plays well on my desktop computer and on the flat screen TV, but it won't play on my lower powered laptop computer, which is probably similar to what friends and family have. Videos which I burn using the DVD format will play on the laptop, but they're horrible - extremely noisy, even somewhat pixelated. Adding video denoise suppresses some noise, but destroys most details. I'm using Cybelink Power Director 10 as the editing program - very happy with it.

In narration editing it is often needed to shorten the talent's speech by cutting out parts. In normal cases the talent's tone gets lower at the end of the completed sentences.

Is there any audio effect or trick by which I can achieve nearly the same effect? (I use Adobe Premiere CS5.)

New to Pinnacle Studio..made my first project and spent probably 20
hours editing an hour of home movies/photos. All of the movies are HD
Video. Just went to make movie and selected an HD format to export to
and it warned me that my project was in 4:3 aspect.

How can I
change the aspect ratio for an existing project? I found out how to
change it for new projects but can't see anywhere to change for existing
projects. If you can't change it is there any way to start a new HD
project, select all from the old project and copy it into the new
project? All of the video is already HD in 16:9 format.

This is Pinnacle Studio 15 Ultimate.

Thanks

I have a hv40 and d3100 ill be shooting with, looking for a good mic. I just sold my xl2 and thought the stock mic on that did a great job, i think it was just a stereo mic. I shoot mostly outdoor auto stuff, picking up engine noise, things of that sort and occasionally people talking are what i need to capture.
