You can easily import the mini dvd files which are already highly compressed with no trouble. But I found that when I edited the files and re-encoded for a DVD that the video did not look very good. But, you don't need to transcode when using Vegas Pro, just put the files on the timeline and edit away. Just make sure that your project profile is set for the target format. I know two are interlaced and one is progressive. Import the footage using the import from dvd option and edit away. You will only have to re-encode the footage if you add effects or other items in the veg.
