Canon Vixia HF11 Frame Rates

The Vixia HF11 can shoot at 24p, 30p and 60i frame rates. However,
according to the manual: “Recordings made with the [PF24], [PF30] frame rate
are converted and recorded on the memory as 60i.” What effect does this
conversion have on videos shot at 24p or 30p that are exported? In particular,
is there a difference between action video shot at 30p and 60i video that is
exported?

I performed the following experiment in an attempt to answer
this question.

Subject: A passenger train passing in front of the camcorder

I shot the first train at 30p and the second at 60i
camcorder frame rates.

I imported this video into Adobe Premier Elements 7.0 using
the AVCHD FULL HD 30 Preset and rendered it. .

Here are my observations. I paused during play to see
individual frames.

1.
Play in Premier showed single image frames for both 30p and 60i clips.

A DVD
made directly from Premier showed single image frames for the 30p clip and
split image frames for the 60i. clip when played using Windows Media
Player.

Video
exported in MP2-1920x1080i format showed single sharp images for 30p
single frames and split images for 60i. This video clip shot at 30p was
the clearest of all during play back.
