Hello,

Thought that this forum seemed the place to ask my question,

I'm a trainee Sports Journalist at University at the moment and for part of my TV Production module I've been asked to make a Newsworthy TV Package,

I was hoping to be able to record my local team Harrogate Town FC during a game but I don't have a camera so was just wondering what the best camera would be for recording the match and able to catch the goals that are scored in good quality.

I am willing to pay upto around £150 but may go upto £350 if pushed to my limit,

Thanks,

I've dropped a couple of vids which show innovative ways to use your tripod to get shots beyond the standard 'Stand and Pan', 'Stand and Tilt'. Here's Derek Beck with some 'Tripod Tricks' to add to the list of thing you can do with your tripod from dramatic tilt zooms to using your 'pod as a steadycam rig.

Hesstifer on "Shotgun Mic + Zoom H4N"

I own two shotgun mics, an AT-897 and a Rode NTG-2, and I'm having the same problem with each (which makes me think that what I'm experiencing is not a "problem" and is completely normal). Here's the situation: When I have one of the mics connected to a Zoom H4N audio recorder, I have to have the recording levels all the way up (to level 100). With the levels all the way up, I have to be just 6-inches directly in front of the mic to be able to talk in a normal voice volume and register -12db on the Zoom (in an otherwise silent room). If I back up to 3 feet from the front of the mic, speaking in a normal voice volume only gets me to -24db. Now, I know you need to be as close to the mic as possible to obtain the best quality, but I would expect to be able to be at least 3ft away and not have to turn the audio recorder's levels to their max. Because when I bring the -24db to normal levels in post, the amount of noise increases as well.

My question is: are shotgun mics supposed to be like this? Is this an issue with the Zoom H4N? It would seem to me that I should have more wiggle room with the Zoom's recording levels to make the mic much more sensitive.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

I just got this in my email from B and H and thought I would share.

http://pro-audio.bhinsights.com/content/get-job-done-new-zoom-h1.html

Sounds like something to look further into and for $100...

I work and like the Zoom H2 and I like how they show the H1 could attach to any camera with an open shoe. Would be interesting to see how much time shift it has when you try to match audio with the video.

I'm looking to purchase the Zoom Digital Audio recorder. I heard they do wonders. Does anybody have any advice they could share with me on which one I should buy? I found the H2 for $179.95 and the H4 for $229.95. I'm doing a seminar in early October and would appreciate any feedback on which one to buy. Thanks everyone.

Hey, I own a Panasonic AG-HVX200. Somebody asked me this today, and made me curious...

With this camera, of course there is a manual zoom mode, which allows free movement of the zoom ring for quick snap-zooms. But also, when you set it to Servo, you are still able to manually zoom with the ring, it's just a little stiffer. The question is, does it harm the mechanics of the zoom lens to operate it by the ring when its set to Servo Zoom mode?

I have been using a GL2 for a couple of years now and mostly shoot pageants, plays, graduations, some weddings, recitals, etc. Thinking about purchasing a used XL2 and am concerned about being able to use both the GL2 and the XL2 for multi-camera shoots and it look right. I use Sony Vegas 8. Does anyone have any similar experiences? I sometimes use up the 40X digital zoom on the GL2 but am I correct in thinking the stock XL2 has up to 20X zoom? Would the picture be a lot better on the XL2 but I might be limited by the wide angle and zoom abilities with the XL2? Please give me your experiences. Thanks.

I shot an edited a music video using a 35mm adapter for the first time.

Here are just a few observations.

the upside down image from the adapter is a pain in the butt.

You have to get used to it real quick or buy a monitor that can flip the image.

If you're shooting outside it will have to be portable with a battery pack.

i also found out that focusing thru the adapter is a whole new ball game. you'll have to pay very close attention to focus and really take your time.

No more letting the cameras autofocus do it all for you.

you cant zoom in and out.

Forget about those long zooms you're used to with your onboard camera zooms. with the adapter attached you will go out of focus quickly.

All in all if you want a film look and a pro look the adapter will give it to you.

I was shocked at how filmlike and hollywood like some of the shots looked after i color corrected them.

I'm using the jag35pro static adapter.

My video can be seen on youtube.
