I believe YouTube prefers H.264 compressed MP4 files but will convert many formats, including WMV.

Youtube won't accept just audio, of course. You're right that there has to be SOME animation. Some musicians I follow just post the song with a picture of them in it. It holds my attention AS LONG AS THE CONTENT IS GOOD (that is, as long as the song is worth listening to). If it's not, then I move on, like anyone else.

I bet the podcasts are similar. Start with something basic and build from there. Add something in each video you post, and pretty soon you'll get handy with it. People will watch it if your content is there.

As for making money, stick with Google and google-related sites like youtube. you have the whole world out there looking for you if you do it right.

Not sure on the eye candy side, but YouTube has sent me those offers before as well. You literally need millions of followers before you make any kind of income, as most people ignore the ads they throw up completely, and clicking on them is required for you to get paid.

Do you know a method that helps you getting more money with podcasts?

other than that, pictures of you or pictures of your subject matter would be good. logos and text are good to add. how about an index of the main subject you're covering?

It should keep the standard youtube user interested. There has to be some animation.

I create podcasts whenever I have something important to say. I gathered a small fanbase already. But I also want to make money with it. I got an email from youtube that I now get a share of adsense revenue there. But my podcasts are audio only. Which quick but at the same time eye-candy ways to create a video around audio can you come up with?

You are getting paid, one-time, by the Client. Nothing to do with the Artist. Make sure the Client puts in writing that they are supplying you with the audio for the project, and possess the requisite copyright permission, or if they do not, accept all responsibility and liability for not doing so. You are then covered. She is making a bad decision, but in this way you have made sure that you are protected.

I once shot an entire play with 6 camera positions to produce as a video, after shooting i found that the producers of the play had used copyrighted music from a major motion picture in the play, I explained the problem to them and they wanted to go ahead anyway. I eventually declined to produce the video. I cost me and the producers anguish and money, but I have no regrets now about this decision

While I doubt anyone is gonna come after you, you ALWAYS run the risk of the PENALTIES of copyright infringement. Perhaps yu should print the penalties/fines section of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and let your client know what they are risking.

There are also sound-alikes in the royalty-free world that can be had (Digital Juice had a couple of StackTraxx libraries that sounded just like the pop 40 originals and SmartSound has some as well).

I have a client that desires to have copyrighted music in the video content that I shoot and edit for her. I try out music in Garageband and other methods of free music but I know she wants certain songs to go along with the videos she imagines.

Although I am getting paid by her to do these videos, they are only going on her YouTube and YouTube usually recognizes the song and (to make things fair) puts an add for the particular song below the video. She knows this and is still fine with using copyrighted music.

With that said, is the fact that YouTube allows viewers to buy the song enough to say that I'm good with copyright infringement? I am making profit but the writer/artist might be making profit too.

Please help!

Anthony -

I would echo what the others have said but take heart in that these criticisms are very constructive and can be solved using technical means and practice in filming and editing (while others will argue the point, you can fix a wealth of issues in post, just takes a lot longer than if you have it good on tape first time).

What you do have is a story (albeit not one I would watch twice) and some vision of what you want to say and show - Try to develop that as it is not only a good thing to have in creating video, but in still photography, writing and public speaking and will serve you well in future years.

Hone your technical skills and spend time developing your minds eye and practice, practice, practice at bringing those two things closer to excellent.

Anthony,

This is by no means 'Pro'. YouTube Special, definitely. You need lights for your interior scenes, at minimum reflectors or bounce cards for your exteriors, consider doing voice-overs for your vocal tracks and lots more camerawork. Student film at best right now.

On the other hand, a clever idea with lots of potential. Do as Grinner said, 'keep shooting'. Push the envelope with this thing. Believe it or not, 'Average' has a lot of lattitude and you can make this thing the hilarious series it could be, if you go out to the edges with your writing. Pro? Not yet. But the potential is there so you're ahead in the game.

Not to be too harsh but - what makes this a professional short film? Did some one pay you to film and produce it? Again, not to be harsh but you state - "When I watch it, my only change would be to add more jokes" - really? What about sound, color balance, lighting, acting, the truck engine that starts out of nowhere as Man Man leaves on his scooter, the female coughing at the end of the joke or her bad wig she is wearing? My thought is that it needs a lot of work - sorry I am sure that wasn't what you wanted to hear but you asked.

I am really curious though why you think this is\should be considered a professional film.

Hi, I'm a student filmmaker who's new to these forums. I've been making shitty little short videos for two years, but at the end of the last school year I worked with a production theater next to my school to make this sketch. And I'm just looking for opinions on it.

When I watch it, my only change would be to add more jokes. The video is basically one long joke, but if I could change it I would add more jokes in general. But yeah, thank you for any criticism or whatnot!

creative commons use must be chosen by the owner of the youtube video this is new in the last few months... as a youtube partner we were notified of this but have never allowed on our channel ...we have had to enforce our rights a few times this year for people stealing our work.

many youtube users will allow it if you ask and give them credit..however the more serious users will not. We copyright and claim copyright to all out video work put on youtube.

just send them a message and ask polite and see what happens.. but i would not use anything you do not have permission to..

To do so legally would first require you to license the video if it is copyrighted, or at very least get the permission of the person who created it. For more information about this, do a search on the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).

As for the technology, it is simple but deal with my first point first.
