I do LOTS of VO out of my home studio and recently a friend has been trying to get me to switch from my AKG 414 to a Neumann U87. Curious if there are any techies in here with an opinion. Samples of my AKG can be heard on my website.

I love my sound, but he insists Neumann is richer. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

AWESOME! I personally LOVE the move of the current and recent posts to the top of the forum column. This is really great and beats having to scroll down to them. Thanks for making this change. I think many will continue to go to the topics and select where they want their originating post to live, but this will help casual readers and others looking for specifics cut to the chase and see what topics are hot and perhaps not miss something. Could see a bit more action IMHO, on slower topic posts.

For some reason none of your streaming videos are playing on my computer. I was looking at the How To / Production / Lighting page and tried to click on several of the streaming video links. A new window opened, the video area came up (black box), but no video ever started.

I just finished redesigning my website. I would appreciate it if you could test it out for me. I'm trying to make sure it works across all platforms and web browsers.

The buttons should bring the content up in a pop up window.

if you have any problems, let me know. Quicktime player is required if you want to view the videos though...

Hello There,

I already have a Domain name and an email address for my Business, but that is it. I don't want to throw down thousands of Dollars for a Customized Website that a Website Designer has Designed just for me and manage it. What I am looking for, is a Website Template that a lot of us Video Business Owners have used for our websites. I would like to embed video from vimeo or other video sites. I want to write all the content of the website. I don't think I want to use Flash on my site, because I just talked to this Expert on Websites and she said that if you use flash on your website it will bury you in the Search Engine Optimization, since those search engines are looking for code and the code is buried in those sites that use Flash. Â Getting back to the subject, I am looking to have a site that is clean, not cluttered, and runs smoothly. I would like to put down the Basic Information pages, like contact, pricing, about the company, payment, yada, yada, yada.... So your Suggestions would be Great and Thank you for your time and Help!

Thank you,

Hey everyone, I'm new here and I just had a few website related questions.

First, I have a production company that I've been using to shoot short films but am in the works of starting a career in wedding and event video production. Is it common to use your film production name and share it with a event video production? Not sure how clients feel about this. Also, if it is common, how do you combine the two types of productions on one website? Separate sub-pages? How do you post news regarding a film your making on a website also viewed by clients looking for a videographer for their event?

Also, what do people use to make websites when they have no HTML experience. I found a free pagebuilder called Weebly that actually seems better than the webstarts and the freewebs pages but wonder if there is anything more professional (and cheap).

Thanks in advance.

Greetings -- I'm in the market for a new HD camera, so I've been visiting the shops and trying to rationalize a fairly large cash investment. I did a search today and found the site "soniccameras.com" and a price I cannot believe -- a new Canon XH/A1 for about $1250

The site that directed me to them (pricingdepot.com) has over 5000 reviews with an "average" of 5 stars (out of 5).

The better business bureau "hasn't heard of them" (well, actually, per the website they were "recently brought to our attention" as of 3/27 -- that would be today...)Â Â This seems a little odd -- I find it hard to believe that with 5000 insanely positive reviews, they haven't had at least one clunker and/or report to the BBB.

The price they are quoting seems suspiciously low, but if it's legit, then hell yeah I'll be buying it from them!

Some (or all) of you may know this, but I wanted to shre this awesome video sharing site with you. It is geared toward film makers and it allows free upload of HD files.

 www.exposureroom.com

The moderators do a good job of responding quickly to your concerns or problems. They've been doing a good job of preventing the site from turning into YouTube. Check it out. There are some good short films on the site and the cool thing is... you get constructive criticism about your work from your peers... whether it's about the editing, the composition, the story, etc... You can learn a lot.

I have found reviews, watched Youtube tutorials, and spent two weeks researching and Videomaker looked like a great place to get solid competent information about my needs.

My interest is to acquire the proper equipment and software for making video productions that will go onto/within webpages, including some Youtube stuff as well.  Creating DVD training disks are also part of my needs.Â

Researching has been helpful, but now I'm down to applying what I've learned to actually buying the equipment to accomplish the work I have planned.

The reviews I've read and viewed for the most part are only about features and now about how the features affect applications.

My list includes ---

A Camcorder

Tripod - I'm looking seriously at the Velbon 7000

Green/Blue Screen Backdrops - I've found muslim 9x12s in both colors to do this at 40.00 each.Â

Lighting I'm looking at low cost alternatives to start no real thoughts on this at the time.

Audio - I've read a Wireless Lapiere Mic kit is a best place to start

Editing softwares - I have windows movier maker with my Vista

--------------------------------------

I have purchased a very competent computer Intel Quad E6600 PRocessor, 4 gig ram, 8800 GTS 512MB video card, Abit A35Pro Mobo.

Looking at cameras I am better educated and have been able to elimate many camera candidates, but I'm still not sure about a best choice or alternative choices.

1.  I don't have any idea what I'm going to need for efficient and competent webside production.

2.  I know I need HD for production of training DVDs, but will HD work well on the Web. I do know the colors availble on the web are limited.Â

3.  I have no idea what kind of connections/ports I need on the camera to do what I plan. There are a number of things mentioned from Firewire, USB, SDI, etc. I don't know if HDMI works both ways to record from a HD TV or play only to an HD TV,etc. I have an HDTV that uses HDMI from the Cable recorder to the TV, but that's about the extent of my HDMI knowledge.

4. I guess I'm looking for a site with shopping lists for guys like myself that want to make a go at Video production on a semi-professional basis...eventually becoming professional.

I have reviewed the Camcorder Sony HDR-SR12 about 100 times, but when I look at all the port/connections I'm lost. It looks to be a pretty good camera going it...

I looked at the JVC GZ-HD7 and HD5, which has more connections, but review information is rather spotty. The price appears very attractive for this camera, for the more professional features it seems to provide. Then of course I don't know pee-nut from pea-nut about camcorders.

I have been reviewing the HVR-HD1000 Sony, which looks like a professional camera. I'm not sure it is, or whether it is kill or overkill for what I want to do.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HmX6GlKCFo

I planned to spend around 1,000 on a camcorder, but I could extend that upwards to around 1,600 or even 2,000. I just can't afford to put out a 1 to 2 grand for a camera that isn't competent to do what I really need to do. I can't afford more at this time, later for sure, but not to start.  Â

The HDD format appeals to me. I don't enjoy the prospects to carry around a lot of tapes and stuff, which require carefully handling and tape wind issues.Â

I've read alot of things about format issues. By that I mean formats work well for uploading to websites and youtube, some don't work without expensive software for edits, etc. i.e., AVCHD, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, MP3, etc. I understand it's mostly about compression of the formatted data, but I'm kinda lost when it comes to the better choice of format or storage media. Â

Currently, most of the work I will do is in a room of my house I plan to dedicate as a studio. I will do some videos outside, when I'm competent enough to do decent work. I've got pretty good camera skills as far as layout and creative issues are concerned. I just don't have the hardware/software education to get a jumpstart into this.

I would appreciate any links or information to get me moving on this. Â

I prefer a charger that can charge straight to the camera, not one where you have to take out the battery and charge it then put it back in.
