Hey guys,

This is my first post on here so bear with me. I hear doing forums is always a good way to get advice and answers on topics, so here goes:

My wife and a friend of ours have started a new web series to be posted on video sites such as youtube, etc. We have experience with acting having worked on real movie sets, as well as script writing (which is what I went to school for), but none of us have any real experience with filming itself. My question is, to make the movie come out as professional as possible, what are some camera angles/transitions, etc. to use to get the right effect? Or rather, the most efficient effect?

The movie contains zombies and will be fast paced. We are filming in the woods and most of the footage will be during the day. The first couple of episodes are background, so its mostly discussion between two characters. I just don't want to shoot the film from one angle the entire time and thus make it boring. Any advice?

How do you make a video for You Tube and have it so there is a live link in the video itself?

I tried hitting insert command then..
Command: URL
Parameter; I put in the website
Comment: I left blank

I rendered it as WMV and uploaded it on you tube and it doesn't seem to be working. Does it need to be rendered differently?

Also it seems like this only sets it for one second were the command marker is. Is there a way to set it up for 5-10 seconds?

I wish I could be a little more specific, but apparently, this is the only way I get responses. It's about web players in specification to their formats, so I could have just titled it "mac vs. pc" (which is what I'm going to try next time). I am unable to save WMV files in Vegas Pro without getting a dropout, so all of my luck seems to be going H.264.

I can watch H.264 files through web pages on my PC through Explorer 8, but am unable to make them buffer when watching online. NO MESSAGE... JUST A WAIT OF TWO HOURS IN ORDER TO GET THE QUICKTIME LOGO TO DISAPPEAR AND PLAY. Bottom line IS THAT IT WON'T STREAM AT ALL - just a strenuous download. How do I get the h.264 video online embedded (or configure QuickTime) where it is actually able to stream? This is not intended to be a 55-hour discussion, or comment that gets nothing at all. I just want an answer.

Hi,

I use a web-based application called Elluminate to hold meetings online. This software allows for six simultaneous audio and video feeds so participants use webcams and headsets to see and talk to each other.

I'm interested in using this software to hold live online coferences/presentations as well but would like to use a camcorder at the back of the room to provide the video feed rather than a webcam.

My question is what do I need in terms of camcorder to do this?

I've been looking at the Panasonic HDC-TM700 and the Sony CX116 HD cameras and wondering whether these would do. Do HD cameras live stream over USB 2.0 connections? Is a IEEE1394(Firewire) connection needed? Would my camera need an audio in or is the on-board mic good enough to pick up someone presenting at the front of a small room from the back?

Any help is much appreciated. Best wishes.

First of all, sorry if my english ins´t great...but i beleive is not so bad either and i will try to explain my problem as best as i can.

Ok, this is something i feel is becoming really important for websites all over the world investing on video news reporting and i (strangelly enough) can´t find any good info about it. So, if someone could help me out i would really be thankfull.

About a year and a half i started a project of video news reporting for a newspaper website. My professional background was in video for TV (i worked as producer and director on a tv news department) and i started only then learning about this wonderfull world of web video.

Usually we make video reports and then bring them in house (on SD Cards) for editing and publishing but lately i´ve been thinking on having the camera operators send me a few clips directly from the reporting site to our offices for almost imeddiate publishing. But what´s the best way to do it?

I want to be able to receive at least decent quality clips so i could do further editing in house so i can´t ask them to send me 320X240 clips. And good quality files are heavy to send over internet and take a large amount of time.

So, does anyone had the same kind of problems? What solutions are available? What´s the best software for conversion (quality/speed)? All ideas on this subjects are important for me and i believe for many other fellow videomakers in your foruns. Thanks for your help.

After watching Adobe's launch of CS5, trying to drown out all the 'buzz' about the 'iPad', 'Droid' and a bunch of other new whiz-bang products getting flung at us everyday, I saw this video about 'Motion Magazine Production'. The all Digital Magazine 'VIV' recently shot their issues' cover and a layout feature completely for the motion mag format. The production shot using live actors, props, and greenscreen with the RED EPIC. Though their project was primarily for the 'i' line of Apple products, I can fully see the potential for this type of work for other devices as well. Take a look at what was done. Though VIV had money to throw at the project, you could with your existing gear produce similar styled content with high production values.

Hey everyone,

I came here because I've spent endless hours researching this topic and so far have had no luck. I've done numerous tests and so far the best I've came up with so far is pretty much the MainConcept AVC/ACC (MP4) Codec, 640 x 360, CBR @ 1,200Kbps for HD video streaming. I've played with the On2 Flix Pro, QuickTime Pro (mine doesn't have the H.264 option available for some reason), and recently messed with ProCoder 3. I've encoded the same video using all of them and the ProCoder 3 seems to be slightly better using the H.264 codec, but I'm still not satisfied. WMV 9 codec in Sony Vegas has by far exceeded all of them, but it's not near as flexible of a format as the flash formats.

What I'm trying to figure out or achieve is video quality like that of Facebook's video. I'm astounded by the quality of my HD videos when I upload them and Facebook converts them.

Can someone give me some really good and helpful tips for achieving much higher quality video, which codec ranks highest (I'm using Sony Vegas), and what is the best method for a target of around 800Kbps - 1200Kbps datarate streaming video.

Whoever solves this riddle for me I will forever be in debt to. It's hard to believe it's so difficult finding any sort of compression guides online that is targeted for streaming video from one's own web server.

Thanks in advance!

 Hi,

I'm looking to buy cams for my company and thought I'd ask you guys for some advice. Â We've been doing some video coverage filming the events that we run and we need to up our game a little. Â The videos are for internet upload so the end result will be fairly low resolution. Â What is important however is turnaround time from editing to upload. Â We have found that, with uploading video and then touchy editing software (Pinnacle Studio), our turnaround time is way too slow. Â Were going to invest in new software (probably Adobe premiere CS4 - We are PC based operation) and new equipment.

Is there a broadcast/good quality camera that also support a quicker download facility for the raw data?

You help would be most appreciated.

Cheers

I have found reviews, watched Youtube tutorials, and spent two weeks researching and Videomaker looked like a great place to get solid competent information about my needs.

My interest is to acquire the proper equipment and software for making video productions that will go onto/within webpages, including some Youtube stuff as well.  Creating DVD training disks are also part of my needs.Â

Researching has been helpful, but now I'm down to applying what I've learned to actually buying the equipment to accomplish the work I have planned.

The reviews I've read and viewed for the most part are only about features and now about how the features affect applications.

My list includes ---

A Camcorder

Tripod - I'm looking seriously at the Velbon 7000

Green/Blue Screen Backdrops - I've found muslim 9x12s in both colors to do this at 40.00 each.Â

Lighting I'm looking at low cost alternatives to start no real thoughts on this at the time.

Audio - I've read a Wireless Lapiere Mic kit is a best place to start

Editing softwares - I have windows movier maker with my Vista

--------------------------------------

I have purchased a very competent computer Intel Quad E6600 PRocessor, 4 gig ram, 8800 GTS 512MB video card, Abit A35Pro Mobo.

Looking at cameras I am better educated and have been able to elimate many camera candidates, but I'm still not sure about a best choice or alternative choices.

1.  I don't have any idea what I'm going to need for efficient and competent webside production.

2.  I know I need HD for production of training DVDs, but will HD work well on the Web. I do know the colors availble on the web are limited.Â

3.  I have no idea what kind of connections/ports I need on the camera to do what I plan. There are a number of things mentioned from Firewire, USB, SDI, etc. I don't know if HDMI works both ways to record from a HD TV or play only to an HD TV,etc. I have an HDTV that uses HDMI from the Cable recorder to the TV, but that's about the extent of my HDMI knowledge.

4. I guess I'm looking for a site with shopping lists for guys like myself that want to make a go at Video production on a semi-professional basis...eventually becoming professional.

I have reviewed the Camcorder Sony HDR-SR12 about 100 times, but when I look at all the port/connections I'm lost. It looks to be a pretty good camera going it...

I looked at the JVC GZ-HD7 and HD5, which has more connections, but review information is rather spotty. The price appears very attractive for this camera, for the more professional features it seems to provide. Then of course I don't know pee-nut from pea-nut about camcorders.

I have been reviewing the HVR-HD1000 Sony, which looks like a professional camera. I'm not sure it is, or whether it is kill or overkill for what I want to do.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HmX6GlKCFo

I planned to spend around 1,000 on a camcorder, but I could extend that upwards to around 1,600 or even 2,000. I just can't afford to put out a 1 to 2 grand for a camera that isn't competent to do what I really need to do. I can't afford more at this time, later for sure, but not to start.  Â

The HDD format appeals to me. I don't enjoy the prospects to carry around a lot of tapes and stuff, which require carefully handling and tape wind issues.Â

I've read alot of things about format issues. By that I mean formats work well for uploading to websites and youtube, some don't work without expensive software for edits, etc. i.e., AVCHD, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, MP3, etc. I understand it's mostly about compression of the formatted data, but I'm kinda lost when it comes to the better choice of format or storage media. Â

Currently, most of the work I will do is in a room of my house I plan to dedicate as a studio. I will do some videos outside, when I'm competent enough to do decent work. I've got pretty good camera skills as far as layout and creative issues are concerned. I just don't have the hardware/software education to get a jumpstart into this.

I would appreciate any links or information to get me moving on this. Â

Hi,

I am involved in a new video website and we are about to make a camera purchase. My partners want to purchase a SONY HVR-V1U (or FX7), thinking that the internet will be abound with HD in the very near future...but this would require a full upgrade of my computer OS, processer, external drive, graphics cards, etc and we might not reap the benefits of HDV (or 24p) for possibly years since we are not broadcast TV.

The flip side is that if an SD camera is bought (I like the Panasonic DVX-100) and HD takes off for the internet, we would be outdated. What would make the most sense right now, considering we are a start up with not a ton of money but trying to keep our eye on both the present and future.

Thanks in advance...

I am going to be producing a web cast for a company i work for. I need to know the best camera to use for this. It has to have GREAT/BEST quality out there, be able to have multiple microphones/audio inputs, be able to capture computer screens via a connection, and i also need to know the best lighting system, back drops, green screens etc. Basically right now i have a "cheap-o" in which i sold the idea of the show, and now they want it produced full scale. Also, what is the best software out there for editing videos, not just creating good videos from raw film, but also the special effects part of it.
